Why is educating people about health more important than ever?

If something is off with your health, it affects every aspect of your life. It affects how you interact with people, with your family, and with your business and clients.

There’s an economic impact of poor health. If someone gets sick, over time they typically get wiped out financially. The number one cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. is financial hardship because of illness and the associated costs.

All of these challenges are inherent in our system. We’re spending more than ever, and we’re getting worse outcomes compared to everyone else.

I’m here to help redefine our definition of health for people to realize that the expression of health is the expression of life.

Tell us a little bit about the relationship between posture, stress, and hormones and how they affect our overall wellness.

Ideally, your neck should have a nice C-shape to it. Over time that forward head posture makes the neck straight, and that position increases stress on your system.  So in theory, if your body is fully aligned, it will be in the necessary healthy state to heal itself.

There is a system in your body called the autonomic nervous system. It is comprised of two other systems – the sympathetic (fight or flight) and the parasympathetic (rest and digest).

The challenge arises if one system (mainly the sympathetic fight-or-flight system) dominates the
other.  Most of medical science agrees that being in chronic states of stress creates hormones that produce breakdown and, ultimately, disease.

Being in a sympathetic state robs your prefrontal cortex, which is the higher brain function that only humans and dolphins have. It robs those centers of blood and nutrients, so you aren’t making great decisions anymore. Instead, you revert to your amygdala, or reptilian brain. This isn’t the best place to make intelligent, rational decisions.

If it’s not too personal, would you mind sharing about your brother and how that experience changed your course in career?

In 2014, I was a self-employed Marketing Consultant living in Los Angeles. I never saw myself as having a career in health or having anything to do with the health field. I had a couple of chiropractors as clients and received care myself, but I never saw myself practicing or speaking about it.

My brother was diagnosed with leukemia and it completely changed my life.  For 2 and a half months he was 24/7 in the hospital.  I got to see the inside of the medical world and felt called to do something about it.

We moved in with his family to support his wife and 2 toddlers.  My consulting business basically evaporated overnight.  I would open up my laptop and stare at a blank screen.  I called all my clients and told them I can’t help you right now.

When it looked like he was going to be ok, I had to make a decision.  Do I recreate the consulting business or do something new.  I made the decision to do something about health and went back to school to become a chiropractor.

Unfortunately, my brother passed within a year even though leukemia was never detected again in his system after the first 2 rounds of chemo.  His death fuels my drive everyday to be better and serve my clients at a deeper level.

You say on your website that you “thought there must be another way” have you determined what that other way is?

Yes, it’s understanding the fundamental difference between healing and curing.  Everyone wants a cure in our society, but none ever arises.

Here’s why.

Healing is deeper than curing. Being able to heal allows you to resolve old wounds, old traumas, and old injuries. By healing and resolving those issues, you get to grow from them. You get to change and become something different from who you were before. No longer do you simply have the symptom or the pain removed.

You are more than cured – you are healed.

What made you choose a co-working environment?

We wanted a space that had more flexibility to do talks, meet other business owners, as we considered how we wanted to scale and grow our business.

I see that you have a private office at The Coop South. Has that been a good fit for you and why?

The private office has been fantastic.  We have a space that is a perfect size for us and has an epic view!

Would you recommend a co-working environment to others and if so, why?

Absolutely!  Dana and the team have been fantastic.  The space is a phenomenal place to operate and grow the business.

this could be you
